Circul'Egg

The food and pharmaceutical industries generate 200,000 tonnes of eggshells every year. As part of a circular economy approach, Circul'Egg has decided to tackle the recycling of eggshells. The company recovers eggshells as they leave the factory, transforming them into two finished products: calcium carbonate powder and shell membrane powder. These products, which have a proven impact on the entire industry, can be sold on the animal feed, construction and nutraceutical markets. Asterion led Circul'egg's Seed round in November 2023.

Investing in Circul'Egg was an obvious choice for Asterion. Circul'egg combines a team of excellent quality in terms of vision, commitment, execution capabilities and complementarity, with a project that is highly important to everyone. By starting out with the recycling of eggshells into high value-added molecules, while aiming in the longer term to give a second life to co-products from the agri-food industry, Circul'Egg is responding to key societal and environmental issues.

Having set up a BU in this sector, I know that the collagen market in the broadest sense is experiencing a paradox. Growing rapidly, it is becoming increasingly "commoditized", while simultaneously seeking real innovation. The extracted collagen contained in the membrane powder marketed by Circul'Egg responds to this demand, offering a complex of highly sought-after active molecules (collagen, of course, but also elastin and hyaluronic acid...), without requiring any "ultra-processing" but rather as part of a circular approach that takes animal welfare into account, and all produced locally. As the Circul'Egg team is also eager to share the created value with the upstream agricultural sector, particularly in Brittany, where I come from, I'm extremely happy to be part of this development and to help speed it up even further.
